Tea Time Games

During every Tempo Tea Time one of the main events is a game to get people chatting and mingling.  Here are the rules to a few games we play!  Please feel free to send us suggestions for new games, how we can tweek a game to make it more fun, or just whether or not you like it this week!

Who Am I?

At the beginning of the game a famous figure’s name is taped to the back of each player(names range from cartoon characters to celebrities to politicians to historical figures).  Each player must try to discover who is taped to their back by asking indirect questions.  Once a player discovers who they are, they get a new name.  The person who has been correctly guessed the most names wins!

Bingo

Each player is given a bingo board different attributes/skills/facts in each square (such as ‘has 1 child,’ ‘has lived in Paris for over 3 years,’ ‘can speak over 4 languages’ etc).  Players must find one person that qualifies the attribute for each box, without repeating.  The person with the most boxes filled wins!

Would I Lie?

Each player writes three facts about themselves on a name card.  Two of the facts should be true and one should be a lie.  Other players must try to guess which fact is the lie by asking indirect questions.  Every time a player correctly guesses the lie on the first try, they receive a colored sticker.  The person with the most colored stickers wins!

Guess Who?

At the beginning of the game each player writes down a little known fact about themselves.  Ten of these facts are written on a board in the front of the room.  Players try to decide which fact corresponds to which player using indirect questions.  The person who finds all ten answers first wins!

Taboo

We divide the group into teams, with an equal number of anglophones and francophones. Each team gets 3 minutes per round to guess as many words as possible. The words are on cards given to one player of the team. Each card contains one word to have the team guess, and a list of words which cannot be used by the player. Each round is in a different language, and we make sure each language is represented in turn by a native and by a non-native…

I couldn’t find this site in French and I wanted to send it to someone whose mother tongue is Italian. She is living in Paris and learning French, but does not speak a word of English. Would she be comfortable in this group?
